Best Hair Clipper for Men UK Reviews 2019

Welcome to the Hair Cutting Tools website for people living in the United Kingdom. More and more people are now starting to cut their own hair at home and there are some great hair clippers available these days and we will be looking for the best hair clipper for men as well as for women and children.

Many parents are also starting to cut their kid's hair at home, well boys anyway, to help cut the costs of going to the barbers. Not many grls are happy to get a home cut ! Its a cheaper and easier option, especially with the short cuts that boys are sporting these days. Its actually quite easy to do, after a bit of practise.

There are a few different "tools of the trade" that you can use to make that task a great deal easier. The main piece of kit that you will need though is a hair clipper. With the invention of these, and their introduction to the market place, cutting hair at home has never been easier.

Now I am not talking here about how it was like 50 years so, when your Dad all but placed a bowl on your head and cut around it with a pair of scissors, and some old fashioned hand held clippers. Believe me, I was a victim of this cruelty many times !

Not only was that one hell of an embarrassing haircut, but your neck usually ended up looking like a butcher's shop. It could take weeks to recover !

Below you will see a full breakdown of the top 10 clippers we have reviewed. They are split by manufacturer and by customer ranking.

Many people ask me what clippers barbers use. We found the most popular one was the Wahl Super Taper Hair Clipper 2000.  At around £70 it is quite expensive but its probably the best, affordable clipper on the market. We have marked it down a bit in the rankings due to the price but if you want the best then this model is hard to beat. If you click on the name it will take you straight to the review on Amazon.

So just to be clear we are not talking about a haircut like that, thank you very much. I have some videos at the bottom of the page where you can see how this can easily be done at home. With very little practice, its easy to become an expert.

On this website though, we shall be looking at the best hair clippers that are currently available for the UK market, though many of the clippers can also be bought in Europe and the USA.

We have also done top tens for each individual brand/manufacturer. Simply Click on the image below, if you prefer to buy by a brand name and this will take you to clipper reviews of each manufacturers best rated products. All best sellers and all rated individually from users.

Hair Clippers Accessories

I will also include sections on hair and beard trimmers which are quite different to the clippers. Now the basic tool you will need will be the clipper, but there are a few more accessories that do come in pretty handy.

In some cases they will come with the clippers but that is not always the case. These accessories include:

  • Hairdressing Scissors
  • A good cape to keep the hair off your clothes and prevent it falling down the back of your neck
  • Different sizes of combs and custom combs like ear and barber comb guides
  • A decent neck brush
  • Clipper Oil
  • Hair Gels
  • Shampoos & Conditioners

None of these are absolute necessities of course, but they do make cutting your hair at home, a great deal easier.

Hair Clipper Buying Guide

If you have never bought hair clippers before, then I would strongly recommend having a read at my buying guide, which also contains a top 10 list of the best hair clippers on the market right now. There are so many different types of clippers on the market and many standards of clipper blades.

Its really just a matter of getting the type of clipper that suits your budget and does the type of cut that you want. We tend not to put any product we don't like on the site, so anything we review is usually a good product that will do a good job for you.

If you don't have time to read a full list, then I have included summary reviews of the top rated hair clippers down below. I checked out a number of different websites to see which clippers were rated the highest.

I then put them into a list, which is shown below. To keep things a little simpler I have used the buyer reviews and ratings that people have left who have actually bought and used these. The ratings are based out of a score of 5 stars. The best buyer rated model may not necessarily be the best value for money so that's worth keeping in mind.

Top Rated Hair Clippers

No 1 Rated Hair Clippers - Wahl Close Cut Hair Clipper

This one came out as number one and on average it costs about £25. There were many buyer reviews who gave this an average score and rating of 4.1 out of 5 stars.

This is a very popular choice with many men, especially those who are nearly bald and want to have a very close cut.

They are also ideal for guys who want the buzz cut. These do have a nice heavy feel to them, and they feel really good in the hand. It is particularly good at removing those stubborn tufts of hair.

These are one of the highest rated on the market right now and as such make it to the top of our list for now.

no 1 rated hair clipper

You will find that the Wahl clippers in general are very popular and are of a very high quality.

No 2 Rated Hair Clippers - Wahl Balding Hair Clipper

This one came out as number two and on average it costs about £55. There were plenty of buyer reviews who gave this an average score and rating of 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Now that is a slightly higher rating than the one above, but they are twice the price.

You can probably figure out that the clue is in the name "balding." They are brilliant for really close cuts.

This one has been designed for guys who look like me. That is bald up top and some hair at the sides and the back of the head. All we want to do is keep our hair short, neat and tidy and nothing does a better job than these.

No 3 Rated Hair Clippers - Remington HC5880 Indestructible Hair Clippers

This one came out as number three and on average it costs about £60. There were a lot of buyer reviews who gave this an average score and rating of 4.3 out of 5 stars.

I have to say that I love the name of these and the reviews certainly support the use of that name.

These have stainless steel Japanese blades, a really solid housing and can deliver a professional cut, so ticks quite a few boxes.

These are perfect if you plan to do a lot of hair cutting at home and for around £48, they are good value for money, as they will last for ages, with just a little maintenance.

No 4 Rated Hair Clippers - Wahl Super Taper Hair Clipper 2000

This Wahl is around the same price as the one above. This one is simply flying off the shelves since its release. It is now a very popular choice with many UK buyers

We have it for now at number four on our list for now, but it will move up very soon. On average it costs about £70. There are hundreds of buyer reviews who gave this an average score and rating of 4.5 out of 5 stars.

It is very well made with strong metal backed combs and it is certainly a very good set of clippers to look at. Hard to argue with the quality of these.

no 4 rated hair clippers

No 5 Rated Hair Clippers - Philips Diy Hair Clipper QC5570/13

This one came in at number five and on average it costs about £29. There were a lot of reviews, well over 1,000 in total and right away this tells you this product has sold in its thousands. They have also rated this with an average score and rating of 4.5 out of 5 stars.

For under £35 it is certainly hard to beat on price and value for money and I think it is why this one is so very popular.

It is unique because it has this 180 degree rotating head to make it easier to use. It is one that I have never used so I am very reluctant to offer an opinion but it seems to work very well. It is hard to disagree with so many excellent buyer reviews.

no 5 rated hair clipper

No 6 Rated Hair Clippers - Wahl Super Taper Hair Clippers

These clippers are a very popular choice for many people. With a huge number of buyer reviews, they sell very well, and with an average rating of 4.5 out of 5 stars, those buyers have got a very good deal.

Many barbers use these as their main product so you know they are professional, will be durable and tough, and most importantly do a very good job.

They have an average price of around £51, depending on where you make your purchase

no 6 rated hair clipper

No 7 Rated Hair Clippers - BaByliss for Men Super Hair Clipper

This one came out as number seven and on average it costs about £37. When this was first released it was £60, but this one has now dropped significantly in price.

Like so many on this top 10 list, there were over hundreds of buyer reviews who gave this an average score and rating of 4.3 out of 5 stars.

The cutting blades are made from Japanese steel and the clippers are very well made. Overall they attract very good reviews and buyers certainly seem to like these a lot.

The Japanese blades are a big bonus as they are the top of the range.

no 7 rated hair clipper

No 8 Rated Hair Clippers - Wahl 79400-800 Colour Pro Coded Mains Hair Clipper Kit

This one came out as number eight and on average it costs about £32. There were 690 buyer reviews who gave this an average score and rating of 4.3 out of 5 stars.

However if you are looking for a powerful set of clippers for family hair cuts, then this one is the perfect choice.

They also use a colour coding system for the combs to make them easy to identify and avoid using the wrong one.

That can be very useful, and may avoid any silly mistakes by picking the wrong comb size.

no 8 rated hair clippers

No 9 Rated Hair Clippers - Remington Stylis Hair Clipper

This one came out as number nine and on average it costs about £22. There were 133 buyer reviews at the time of writing this who gave this an average score and rating of 4.2 out of 5 stars.

This one is both a corded and cordless option. It is at the lower end of the price point and that means it will be affordable for most people , though for the price we think its pretty good value.

Overall buyers like this one as it has the cordless option and uses ceramic blades that self-oil, which is of course good for those who want maintenance free clippers.

no 9 rated hair clipper

No 10 Rated Hair Clippers - Wahl Clip N Trim ll Mains Hair Clipper with Integrated Trimmer Blade Black / White 79900-800

This one came out as number ten and on average it costs about £33. There were 80 buyer reviews who gave this an average score and rating of 4.4 out of 5 stars.

Even though this one is at number 10 in our list, it is actually the number one best seller in the USA. Please don't under estimate this corded clipper with a built in trimmer.

It is in at a very good price point and many people do make this their purchase

no 10 rated hair clippers

Now if you picked any one of these from the list you will own a high quality hair clipper. Ratings of 4.5 and above are sure signs that the product is very high quality. It is worthwhile going through those above as some people prefer to shop by brand, and others prefer to shop by price.

There are many other clippers available on the market, but if the average rating is under 4 out of 5 stars, I do not include them as, I always like to see a 4+ rating. That way you can be pretty certain that you are buying a very good product, and not wasting your hard earned cash.

Different types of Clipper Blades

There are many types of different blades available for clippers and these have a big impact on both price and how well the clipper works. The quality of the blade is generally reflected in the price so you need to make sure you are not paying top price from something with the cheapest blades.

Though all the clippers we have reviewed are good quality and there is no need to buy a unit with the best blades if you are only going to use it once every couple of months.

Blades can be manufactured from the following

  • Steel
  • Stainless Steel
  • Chromium Steel
  • Carbon Steel
  • Japanese Steel
  • Ceramic
  • Tiatnium
  • Titamium Blades

Most users would say that the Ceramic blades are the best as they don't heat up at all and they stay sharp for longer as they don't wear much. There are around 7 different levels of quality on the steel blades so it can be a bit confusing if you don't know what you are looking for.

If you want to know more about all the different blades you can read a more detailed explanation at Hair Clipper Blades Explained. Really it all comes down to price against quality but its always best to do your research before you splash out on at product and there are always bargains to be had if you know what you are doing.

I hope this article has been some help to you. As I have already said, if you stick to well known names or go for any of the models in any of our top ten reviews then you cant really go wrong. Just choose a price you want to pay then go for the best rated clipper that suits what you want to do and don't be scared to have a go at home!
