Braun make a wide range of hair removal products but this Silk-Expert IPL BD5009 is something that's a bit different. Its really a hair removal system using light to remove hair from body and face. It is derived from professional light technology, the Braun Silk-expert IPL is clinically tested for safe and effective use at home.

At around £399 RRP this is not a cheap item but it seems that they might be well worth the money. If you shop around a bit on line you can sometimes find them around £220, we actually found them in several places online at this reduced price The user ratings are off the scale with the product getting some of the best reviews we have seen. As you might expect this product is cutting edge technology and is absolutely everything you would expect for this price level of product. It has an impressive build quality and seems to be well worth the money. This will genuinely allow you to do IPL treatments in the comfort of your own home.

Is it really worth the money

Spending this type of money on an IPL device is a big ask, but if you consider the money you might save over the years, regardless of if you get salon waxes or shave at home with an electric or manual razor, it will even out eventually. Realistically for most people it's more about the time and hassle than the money. Those with darker hair who are likely to get the best results are also the people who struggle with particularly visible hair, so really that's a perfect match up

Braun Silk-expert IPL is as its most effective on light to medium skin tones with most hair types ranging from blonde to dark brown or black. The device is at its least effective on very blonde, red, grey or white hair because smaller amount of melanin does not absorb the light just so easily.

Overall we would recommend this system especially for your most sensitive areas like under the arms and the bikini line, which are quick and easy to do and a nuisance to deal with normally. Not having to shave under your arms every few days is a delight.

I should also point out that the product does have a life span of 14,000 flashes. But by Braun's calculations, this is enough for 12 years of use on lower legs, bikini line, and underarms. By then, those follicles should be dead as a dodo!
